should you hire a career coach?

No, not like that. Like this:

You know those people who actually seem to love their work? The ones either in your life or online who seem energized by what they do, driven to make the world a better place, and have lives they enjoy as well? I want that to be you.

I’m Laura Simms, and I’m here to help you have a career that feels like home.

I believe that meaningful, profitable work is available to everyone who wants it (no-brainer) and knows how to look for it (that’s what I’m for).

Several years ago, I struggled through my own career change. Feeling betrayed that my dream career wasn’t so dreamy anymore, I feared I’d never find something I loved and paid the bills, felt incapable and under-qualified, and did a lot of crying on the couch next to a mountain of soggy tissues.

I tried to think of other jobs I could be passionate about. Web designer? Professor? Animal trainer? Sometimes I would change my mind several times in a single day, and none of the options seemed like quite the right fit.

Then I stumbled onto an idea that changed my career forever:

What if it’s less about what you do, and more about why you do it? What if you didn’t start with passion, but started with purpose?

I soon found my way to a career (you’re looking at it) that felt good in my bones, allowed me to contribute to something bigger than myself, and made more money than my “practical” jobs had. Sometimes I still laugh out loud that I get paid to do something I enjoy so much. That’s what being home is like.

Today, I help people find fulfilling careers that blend:

Your Career Homecoming, my holistic approach to career change, helps people come home to work they love, even if popular career change books and life coachy e-courses haven’t worked.

What makes my way different? There are no career tests, no “What did you want to do when you were a kid?” and no “What would you do if money didn’t matter?” You’re more complex than a test, you’re not a kid, and the money does matter. Because you’re looking for purposeful work, we start with purpose.

Remember those careers I considered that didn’t make the cut? I designed this website, have been known to teach an occasional university course, and share my office with a rabbit named Henry. There’s a career home waiting for you; it just may not look like you thought it would.
