What should I blog about?

I bet if you Googled “what should I blog about” you’d find several hundred articles suggesting that you create posts with bulleted lists or Top 10s. More creative thinkers may suggest you write something that makes you scared to push the publish button.

I’ve got a different take: write what you need to say.

In the acting world, there’s a thing about the need to speak. You don’t say your line because it comes next in the script, you say it because you must say it. You are compelled to say it. You can’t not say it.

And so I ask you: what is it you need to say?

What questions do you need to answer? What questions do you need to ask? What needs to be said? And needs to be said by you, in your voice, because you can’t not say it?

That’s what you should blog about.

It’s not about formulas and trends. You have a voice. Find it, use it, and I guarantee the right people will rally round.

Hi beautiful lady,

I love this. You’re absolutely right about breaking free from the bullet points and the list posts and the automated spiel to try and draw more web traffic.

I’d rather write beautiful, eloquent, meaningful writing that touches and engages my readers on a whole ‘nother level than simply churning out regurgitated, soulless rhetoric.

Love and light ~

Nikki xoxo

Nikki, I think the posts are talking about are the ones that keep people around. Not that you can’t have meaningful content in list or bullet form, but the form is not the answer.

Seriously good! I feel I’ve got a good direction on my blog, and don’t have trouble coming up with ideas for posts. However, this generator has really made me put my thinking cap on. Thanks!

Ah…. I love that you go against what “everyone” says you should be doing. Many talk about “Finding Your Voice” with blogging. Lists, bullet points and how to’s feel techy and corporate. And not very me. Doing them because I “should” feels so icky and artificial.

I am starting to find my voice by sharing my adventures. The highs and lows with openness and honesty. Feels more true to me. And is much more fun and fulfilling for me.

Thank you for being a clear voice in the blogging noise, saying it’s okay to do it your own way.
